A Thoughtful Prayer for our Nation

Tonight, hundreds of concerned citizens from the Mt. Pleasant, Texas area assembled at the Civic Center to participate in a Town Hall forum concerning the current health care legislation. In a town of roughly 15,000, the attendance was astounding, especially for a Friday night. Two area doctors, both of whom have extensive experience in government run healthcare, and one local insurance agent spoke on the subject at hand. Very informative.

However, it was the opening prayer that really sparked my attention. David Horton, a simple citizen, voiced his plea to our Almighty Father with specific precision and heart-felt humility. Below you will find his words. Read them carefully. Consider them as you lay your concerns at the feet of our God. Remember His Almighty hand has been there before, and He is still on His throne. Praise God for His deliverance in the past, and we eagerly await His righteous right hand to lift His people once again!

Mr. Horton's prayer...

Our Father in Heaven, we are thankful for all those that are assembled here this evening to express our concern for what is happening to our great nation. We now open our hearts and our minds to receive the messages brought by these individuals who have unselfishly given their time and energy for our benefit.

Our people are asking deliverance from an oppressive government that has abandoned the infallible constitution implemented by our founders. Lest we are dismayed by the daunting task before us, we look back with hope and encouragement at the examples of the Hebrew children freed from the bondage of an oppressive Egyptian ruler and our country’s revolution from the English tyrant. These examples encourage us that we can once again rise up in successful protest.

We are bolstered, too, by the stories of Samson, who, with the jawbone of and ass, slew 1000 of the Philistine army; little David who slew the giant Goliath with a slingshot and only one small stone of the five chosen; Joshua and the walls of Jericho; and our great statesman, Ronald Reagan, who triumphed over the Communist regime when he demanded that the damnable Berlin wall be taken down.

Now we go in to this forum in glorious confidence that we can make a difference, that we speak for our country and we demand our executive and legislative leaders tear down that wall between us and return to the principles established in our constitution. Specifically they must deny passage of the proposed Health Care plan. Bless our efforts we ask in Your Holy Name. Amen
