Who Is Erwin Cain?

Hopkins County Republican Party Chairman Erwin A. Cain announced his candidacy for State Representative District 3. HD 3 is comprised of Delta, Franklin, Hopkins, Lamar, Red River, and Titus counties. In announcing his candidacy, Cain said
"I am running because I love my country, and I love East Texas. Like many others, I've watched in shock at the incredible overreaching of the federal government into our rights and our wallets. That same liberal philosophy is knocking at the door of our state legislature, and East Texans deserve to have a committed conservative who will never shift with the prevailing political winds."

Cain outlined the need to stop the growth of government and instead promote private sector job growth in East Texas. "The entrepreneurial spirit is the life blood of our country, and nowhere does that individualism shine brighter than in our great state. I will be a bulwark against any efforts to raise taxes, grow government, and dilute our freedoms. We must promote and advance economic and community development. We have plenty of water, inexpensive land, trained labor, and a low cost of living. By aggressively and wisely touting these assets outside of our district, we can develop more vibrant and prosperous opportunities and create more jobs here in
our community."
"East Texans deserve and expect a respectful discussion of the issues, as well as a debate on who can best represent our values, our families, and our district."

"When more than 500 citizens turn out on a hot summer day in Sulphur Springs to express their concern about the future of their state and nation, it's clear that the hard-working taxpayers of District 3 are paying attention, asking the tough questions, and saying "enough is enough." This will be the year when no elected official will be able to get away with saying one thing in East Texas and voting another way in Austin."

Cain, 49, currently serves as Chairman of the Hopkins County Republican Party, which has experienced strong growth in the past several years. In the 2008 primary, almost five times more voters turned out than in 2006 or 2004. Cain has also worked to promote conservative principles across East Texas by launching and chairing the Northeast Texas GOP Chairmen's Coalition. The group is comprised of Republican leaders in eight counties across the region, including five of the six counties in HD 3.

A small businessman, Cain owns a real estate investment company. In college, Cain served as Texas state president of the Junior Collegiate Distributive Education Club of America (DECA). At the time, DECA was the nation's 2nd largest scholastic organization and focused on training young entrepreneurs for the business world. Mr. Cain's law practice extends throughout East and Northeast Texas, where he has built a practice representing those facing frivolous lawsuits. He has owned his own law firm for 15 years. Cain said, "I've spent the last 21 years defending individuals and businesses from the costly and wasteful whims of frivolous lawsuits by plaintiff lawyers. I have supported practical reforms to limit the reach of lawsuit abuse and to promote a healthy business environment. I will continue that fight in the Texas Legislature."

In 1982, Erwin Cain earned an Associate degree in Management from Kilgore Junior College. He graduated from East Texas State University (now Texas A&M University-Commerce) in 1985 with a Bachelor degree in Management and Marketing. In 1988, Cain earned his law degree from the University of Arkansas, where he served as second-year law school class representative, was honored by being on the "Dean's List," and graduated in the top quarter of his class.

Erwin and Hope Cain have been married for almost 21 years and reside in the rural community of Como, located just outside of Sulphur Springs. The couple has three children: Hunter (17), Averi (14), and Honour (11), all of whom attend public schools in the Como-Pickton CISD. Outlining his support for education, Cain said, "High quality education is the smartest way to secure our children's futures. I will work to make District 3 schools the envy of the state."

The Cains are members of First Baptist Church of Sulphur Springs, where Erwin is an adult Sunday School teacher. Cain outlined his commitment to be a reliable voice for the values of faith and family.
"As a husband and a father of three I have learned the importance of strong family values, teaching by example, and personal responsibility. That starts with integrity, the bedrock of a strong moral core. I will always champion the sanctity of life and fight to preserve traditional marriage."

New Policy for Comments on MyCall2Rise

I have recently learned how easy it is to impersonate someone online, especially in the blog world. When posting comments, using the "Anonymous" name is a way for someone to say what they want without facing the possible consequences of their comments. By going anonymous, you can easily say you are someone else. It is even easy to comment using the name of someone else if you have the information to do so.

The latter has happened to me on another blog site just this week.

Therefore, on MyCall2Rise, any and all "Anonymous" comments will be deleted immediately, regardless of the nature of the comment. Furthermore, if it is learned that someone has impersonated another in their comment, that comment will be deleted and that person will be blocked from making future comments.

Integrity is vital to me personally, and, I believe it is key to the success of our city, state and nation.

Thank you for respecting this policy and I look forward to genuine, honest comments in the future.
