Cain Gains Momentum; Harper Support Collapses

Harper receives no district contributions outside his home county

(Hopkins County, TX) - Campaign Finance reports made public today at the Texas Ethics Commission confirm that Erwin Cain continues to build strong grass roots support, having raised almost $40,000 from 133 donors - more than five times the amount raised by his opponent. Meanwhile, these reports indicate that the Holland Harper campaign has effectively collapsed, collecting only $7480 from just 22 in-district donors, and the candidate failed to earn a single district contribution outside of his home county.

Since beginning his campaign, Erwin Cain has earned the support of almost 275 donors, raising over $80,000 or more than double that of Mr. Harper. Ninety percent of Cain’s funding has come from within HD 3, reflecting a solid base in every county in the district, including Lamar County – the home county of Mr. Harper. In Lamar, Cain has raised $17,488.77, almost matching Harper’s $22,274.34 (summary included at end of release.)

These reports confirm that East Texans have rejected the false, negative campaign launched by Mr. Harper, who is spending more than $200,000 of family money to conceal his Democrat record. Austin-based Capitol Inside reported just yesterday, “….Harper is perceived as the moderate amid revelations that he's voted in several Democratic primaries in the past and backed candidates such as Hillary Clinton and the Democratic state lawmaker he hopes to replace. Cain - on the other hand - is a Hopkins County GOP chairman who's been endorsed by several conservative groups with considerable sway including the Young Conservatives of Texas and the Empower Texans PAC that's the political arm for the Texans for Fiscal Reasonability.”

To date, Erwin Cain has received every conservative endorsement given in the campaign, including Texas Alliance for Life; Empower Texans PAC, the political arm of Texans for Fiscal Responsibility; Young Conservatives of Texas; Conservative Republican of Texas; Texas Home School Coalition; former Republican Party of Texas Vice Chairman David Barton, and 46 key Republican leaders including current and former GOP County Chairs, Elected Officials, SREC members, current and former Precinct Chairs, and grassroots leaders in House District 3. Cain has also secured an “A” rating from the Texas State Rifle Association.
